OK, I have been lax in my bacon blogging, perhaps because I spent most of my time in January cooking and eating bacon. January was a month filled with single-minded, bacon-focused, unadulterated, 24-hour a day, bacon obsession. I read about bacon, looked for bacon recipes, used the bacon recipes, and ate the product of the bacon recipes. I talked about bacon, shopped for bacon, dreamt about bacon, and ate an obscene amount of bacon. Everything I ate had bacon on it, bacon in it, or was completely wrapped in bacon. No one said anything, but I am guessing at some point I even started smelling like bacon.

My friends ate bacon. My husband ate bacon. Even my non-bacon eating mother joined in and ate turkey bacon (not really bacon, but don’t burst her bacon bubble.) Every food item (salad, entrée, and dessert) that I brought to my weekly life group meeting and any party I went to contained bacon. My friends checked in with me daily asking if and how I had eaten my bacon. So, here is a list chronicling what I ate during my first month of bacon 2010:

Omelets and eggs scrambled with bacon

Maple bacon pancakes and waffles

PB2Js (Peanut butter, bacon, and jelly sandwiches)

Bacon in sandwiches

Bacon in burgers

Bacon on hotdogs

Bacon on pizza, pasta, and rice

Bacon in soups, salads, dressings, sauces, and dips

Bacon in pastry

Bacon on and in veggies

Bacomole

Bacon wrapped dates

Bacon on and in ice cream, including Bacon Love ice cream and the amazing Elvis Shake at the MooCreamery (you can read my Yelp review here: http://www.yelp.com/biz/moo-creamery-bakersfield#hrid:Zy-B0QGCpHlL8I7Ytp-6XA)

Bacon cookies and cakes

Bacon maple fudge

Bacon cinnamon rolls

Candied bacon

Chocolate covered bacon

Bacon almond chocolate bark

Praline bacon

Bacon brittle

Bacon vodka, which was consumed as martinis and bloody marys

Bacon beer (need to work on this one)

…And just plain bacon

I ate all kinds of bacon:

Pepper bacon

Maple bacon

Smoked bacon

Cured and uncured bacon

Thick, regular, and thin sliced bacon

Canadian bacon (yeah, I know)

Pancetta

Turkey bacon (OK, not really bacon but bacon-like)

Different brands and qualities of bacon

And even bagged 100% real bacon bits (don’t hate)

I was ultimately successful in my goal of eating bacon at least three times a day, every day, for the entire month of Baconuary…ummm January. The only times I didn’t eat bacon with a meal was if the establishment did not serve bacon (i.e. In-n-Out does not have bacon.) In those instances I just added an extra bacon-containing meal to my day…it was rough, but I did it for science…and the good of mankind. Despite my increased bacon consumption I have not gained weight, nor have I sprouted a piggy snout and curly tail. What I have gained, however, are some new and awesome bacon-appreciating friends. A group of us celebrated the end of Baconuary by throwing a bacon-filled party we called “Baconpallooza 2010!” All of the food items contained bacon and my friends from www.theredshaker.com shook up some mean bacon martinis. I will post a separate blog item detailing the events and menu items of Baconpallooza 2010!

Baconuary was a pretty awesome month! It might be a little too early to tell if mankind is better off because of my altruistic bacon eating, but I feel very positive about my contribution of powerful bacon energy and mojo into the universe. I will continue my quest for happiness and prosperity for all through bacon and continue to report back on my progress.

If you have any good bacon recipes or bacon recommendations please let me know by either posting a comment or sending an email to baconfetish@hotmail.com

Oink oink for now and remember to eat more bacon, the world will thank you.

Yours in bacon,

BF

Everything is better with bacon! No really, I honestly believe this 100%…so I am going to test my theory. 2009 was a pretty dicey year with the economy, unemployment, Tiger Woods. I started thinking, “How can I ensure that 2010 will be a better year?” Yup, BACON! Screw the 12 days of Christmas, I’m talking 365 days of pure pork goodness. The way I see it Bacon = Happiness, except for Jews, Muslims, Buddhists, and vegetarians. I fully support the act of non-bacon eating for religious reasons and personally vow to eat more bacon to ensure the happiness of my religious non-bacon eating brethren in 2010. The vegetarians, however, are on their own…they just make me sad.

My plan is to eat bacon daily, ideally in 3 meals per day, for the altruistic purpose of making 2010 a better year for all mankind. Hey, it’s for science! I am willing to put my arteries and waistline on the line for my fellow man. Don’t thank me, thank bacon. Beginning today, I am on a quest for happiness and prosperity for all through bacon.

I will be posting my bacon eating quest and all things bacon here on my blog. I encourage you to follow me in my pursuit for a better 2010 and eat more bacon!
